Naturally Me: A Lunar New Year Reflection
With Lunar New Year around the corner, I’ve been reflecting on a tradition my mother started: obsessing over our annual horoscope. Will this year bring prosperity…? Will it warn of disasters…? Will any of it even come true?!
Horoscopes aren’t known for clarity, but when I shifted focus away from the predictions and looked at how I reacted, I found something deeper—it became a way to explore my authenticity.
I would ask myself: What did this prediction bring up in me? Am I relieved? Do I feel seen? Am I disgusted or distraught that this could be a part of me?
As someone born in the year of the Rabbit, I noticed I have:
traits I’ve always valued—compassion, sensitivity, intuition
traits I’ve resisted—gentleness, creativity, comfort
traits I’ve idolized—calm, responsibility, politeness
I realized that much of my life had been spent picking traits based on how others saw me. If someone labeled me timid, I’d prove I could fight. If they saw me as sensitive, I’d endure harsh words in silence.
“I was always reacting, and I was tired of it. ”
So, I began a journey of self-discovery to uncover what truly mattered to me. This gave me access to make intentional, aligned choices.
Now, I can tell you that I am a Rabbit because:
I choose gentleness to build trust and lead meaningful change.
I choose compassion to actively prevent harm and violence.
I choose creativity because it recharges my joy.
I choose intuition because it’s my deepest source of wisdom.
So I want to ask you:
What traits come naturally to you? How often do they get to show up?
If this reflection resonates with you and you’re ready to reconnect with your authenticity, I’d love to support you.
